Catapults

Today’s Makers are creating catapults. First, a discussion on what a catapult is. Then a quick YouTube video of a working catapult. The children were then challenged to create their own version of a catapult using the following materials: tape, craft sticks, plastic spoons, and cardboard tubes to catapult an aluminum foil ball.

The Makers had lots of fun figuring out how to make their catapults successful. They had to try various things to correctly figure out problems such as: how to make the catapult launch the correct direction, how much force to use, and what makes the catapult work!

Through trial and error, they all made successful catapults that launched their tin foil packages. Then learned teamwork and friendly competition by helping each other measure how far their catapults launched and seeing who could make theirs go the farthest!
