The Heart Behind the Classroom: Celebrating the School Teacher During Teacher Appreciation Week

May 9, 2026 · By Carmina Harris, Olive Children · Adapted for Little STEaMers

Teaching together

A child’s day is shaped by many quiet acts of care. One teacher may guide a small group while another notices an emerging interest, comforts a child, or records a new skill. Working together makes it possible to respond to children in different ways at the same time.

Different ages, shared attention

In an infant room, a teacher may notice a first reach and prepare a sensory invitation. With toddlers, an educator can help put words to a conflict or join an investigation. Preschool teachers may document a project, offer new materials, and revisit children’s ideas. Each contribution helps the team see the whole child more clearly.

A community of educators

The second teacher is a partner in thinking, planning, and caring. Children see adults listen to one another, solve problems, and share responsibility. During Teacher Appreciation Week, we recognize the patient, creative work that happens both in front of families and behind the scenes. It is this daily teamwork that helps a classroom feel welcoming and alive.
